Concept Character Designer

ALT Animation are looking for an experienced designer to join us as a Concept Character Designer  on the upcoming production of ‘Captain Onion’s Buoyant Academy For Wayward Youth’. 

 

The series is a 50 x 11 minute energetic comedy-driven animated adventure show for anyone who’s ever felt like a fish out of water. Aimed at an audience of 7-12 year olds, the heart of the show is about finding the friends that define this time of your life. 

 

The show will be made in collaboration with Studio Meala in Ireland and Wild Child Animation in Scotland, with funding from Northern Ireland Screen, Screen Ireland, Screen Scotland the UK Global Screen Fund. 

Expected Roles and Responsibilities

  • Design original character concepts that align with the established series’ visual style.

  • Create clean, character turnarounds, costume variants, expression sheets and character sheets.

  • Work alongside a fast paced team to ensure that consistency is maintained throughout. 

  • Incorporate Director and HOD feedback into designs.

Essential Criteria

  • A passion for creating meaningful characters

  • An excellent understanding of gesture, form and anatomy

  • Proficiency working within Adobe Creative Suite- particularly Photoshop

  • Great time management and organisational skills

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

  • Must be based or willing to relocate to Northern Ireland

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience working on 2/3 productions of a similar size.

  • Art Director and Series Director
