Background Lead
ALT Animation are looking for an experienced designer to join us as a Background Lead who will be in charge of a team of artists on the upcoming production of ‘Captain Onion’s Buoyant Academy For Wayward Youth’.
The series is a 50 x 11 minute energetic comedy-driven animated adventure show for anyone who’s ever felt like a fish out of water. Aimed at an audience of 7-12 year olds, the heart of the show is about finding the friends that define this time of your life.
The show will be made in collaboration with Studio Meala in Ireland and Wild Child Animation in Scotland, with funding from Northern Ireland Screen, Screen Ireland, Screen Scotland the UK Global Screen Fund.
Expected Roles and Responsibilities

Lead a fast paced team of designers to bring Director’s vision to life.

Assign backgrounds, review work, and provide clear, constructive feedback to team members.

Meet delivery deadlines whilst ensuring backgrounds align with the Director's creative vision.

Paint high quality, production ready backgrounds based on layouts and environment designs.

Create backgrounds that match narrative mood and tone.

Work closely with Directors and ensure that feedback is Incorporated into designs.
Essential Criteria

Experience as a senior or lead background artist on a production.

A strong portfolio demonstrating exceptional background painting and visual storytelling.

Excellent leadership skills and ability to delegate.

Ability to maintain visual cohesion across a large team.

Must be based or willing to relocate to Northern Ireland
Desirable Criteria

Experience working on 2/3 productions of a similar size.

Background Artists and Key Background Artists. The BG team will have a team of approximately 4/5 artists.
