Art Director

ALT Animation are looking for an experienced Art Director to join us and lead our Art Department and a team of designers and artists on the upcoming production of ‘Captain Onion’s Buoyant Academy For Wayward Youth’. 

 

The series is a 50 x 11 minute energetic comedy-driven animated adventure show for anyone who’s ever felt like a fish out of water. Aimed at an audience of 7-12 year olds, the heart of the show is about finding the friends that define this time of your life. 

 

The show will be made in collaboration with Studio Meala in Ireland and Wild Child Animation in Scotland, with funding from Northern Ireland Screen, Screen Ireland, Screen Scotland the UK Global Screen Fund. 

Expected Roles and Responsibilities

  • Create style bible and rules for series Consult on script and storyboards Create / Approve asset lists

  • Episodic design briefs with documents for art team

  • Oversee and input into character designs, prop design and concept BGs - review and sign off

  • Review and sign off on scene prep / layout

  • Review & sign off on BGs

  • Review first draft animation / comp for initial episodes

  • Ensuring that those in the art team have the support and materials to stay on schedule

Essential Criteria

  • Experience as a senior or lead artist on a production.

  • A strong portfolio demonstrating exceptional background painting and visual storytelling.

  • Excellent leadership skills and ability to delegate. 

  • Ability to maintain visual cohesion across a large team.

  • Must be based or willing to relocate to Northern Ireland

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience working on 2/3 productions of a similar size.

  • Series Director and Producers

Direct Lead to:

  • Concept Character Designer, Concept Environment Artist, Key BG Artist, BG Team Lead, Model Pack Artists
